Newborn photography - Evie and Georgina

I was contacted by a very lovely mummy a while ago asking me if I can take photos of her baby when it arrives. I agreed straight away and then had to wait for baby’s arrival for many a month. I had many months to prepare and visualise how this session should be. All I knew was that I wanted to try out as many types of styles as baby will allow us and make sure I have everything I need.

Our session day was very windy and grey with lots of rain and dark clouds. Even though Georgina has sent me a picture of the brightest rooms in her house before the session and I chose her sitting room with two large windows for our session, I knew that it still going to be too dark to use natural light. Luckily by this point I had received my small portable studio with light that I was planning to use for the sessions when my clients do not have large windows at their home or access to these windows is restricted and we have to choose a different space.

Just before the session started, I asked for 10 minutes to set up my studio quickly while Georgina gave Evie one more feed and changed her. After this Georgina chose one of the outfits that I had prepared for this session, and we looked at other outfits and special items we would incorporate into our session.

Once all was ready and we had discussed all details, I put the white noise machine on and we could start our photo session.

Evie was absolutely wonderful! Instead of sleeping she just quietly observed what was happening like she knew that is is the day for her photo session. She was calm and peaceful with mummy next to her at all times. I asked Georgina to make sure the room was kept especially warm so baby feels comfortable, and also encouraged her to give as many feeds and cuddles as Evie needed. I can’t emphasise enough how my Newborn sessions are very much baby-led and there is no added pressure on baby or parents.

Our second part of the session was all about Evie and mummy Georgina. I wanted to capture those special Evie and mummy moments and ask Georgina to spend some time just in the moment, with plenty of cuddles between both of them.
